Brief Description:  Picking up the Monerai Glider

Purchased a Monerai Glider #343 from NJ. Here is the history of this aircraft. Original owner purchased kit in 1981 (Wilmington, NC), worked on it through 1983 then after selling the kit to the local EAA Chapter in Wilmington, NC it went unused until sold to the individual in NJ in 2004. The aircraft was never flown and ultimately I purchased it in 2013. This makes the aircraft 32 years old, almost as old as me! According to the logs it has never been flown. The aircraft included a trailer, which made for a convenient sale and transportation back to the house. Aaron and I left Aberdeen, MD for Helmetta, NJ at 8am for a 10am arrival. Snow was forecast and sure enough it began snowing at noon, the time of our departure back to Aberdeen, MD. Glider in tow, we made it safely back to NJ.

The glider was purchased to convert into a testbed for a small turbojet engine, the H90, manufactured by Jetbeetle. The intention being to build hours on the engine and create an affordable self launch glider to exhibit at Airventure 2014. I estimate 100 hours of total labor with the majority of the labor going to the fabrication of the fuel tanks. Aaron will be piloting the plane on her maiden voyage once he receives his glider rating and powered glider endorsement. My time will focus on the welding, engine integration and redesign of the instrument panel.
