Brief Description:  Instrument Panel

I had some confusion with how the panel was supposed to mount. The PF-160 turtle deck is only 19 inches wide and the instrument panel assembly mounted vertical leaving a 1 inch gap. So, after careful inspection it became clear that the panel needed some additional bending. Additionally, you want the panel to be almost perpendicular to your line of sight relative to your head position when sitting down. This is my bending solution. I did not get a picture of this, but I used (2) 36" pieces of 2" angle aluminum, 1/8" thick" and sandwiched them around the bend at the bottom with 4 clamps. I then had my wife stand on a wooden board that was placed on top of the instrument panel, which was lying flat on my workbench. This allowed me to push on the clamps, as if it were a metal brake to change the angle without curving the panel, or beating on it for that matter. The result, perfection, no curvature and the exact angle I wanted. Furthermore the instrument panel angle provides a nice 1.5" eye brow overtop the panel that will look good. A right angle drill attachment is a must for drilling these 2 bolt holes, so I had to pick one up from Home Depot for about $18 along with a 1/8" and 3/16" bit to go with it. Finally, the PF-159 edging that comes pre-riveted to the panel requires some tweaking to get the angle right so that it isn't touching or digging into the frame. I used my scotch-brite wheel on the grinder to get the angle just right. Next up is the turtle deck skin.
