Brief Description:  Canopy drilling to frame

Continued canopy work... drilling to the frame. I thought long and hard about gluing the canopy to the frame using the Sika Flex adhesive system as many builders are doing these days, and even bought the materials. In the end, I decided to go the plans route and mechanically fasten the canopy to the frame via pop rivets. The issue here is minimized cracks in the canopy which can generate easily from any imperfections in the plexiglass (ie, holes, edges, etc). The drilling was relatively painless and trouble free as I had high temperatures and an appropriate plexi-drill bit to work with. I do have a 1/8"-1/4" gap between the plexi and the frame around the aft end of the frame that worried me for a while. However, this portion will be covered by the canopy skirts and I will fill the gap with Sika Flex. Plus, the Van's prototype airplanes have a small gap in the same location and their engineers say it affects nothing. Build on.
