Brief Description:  rudder internals

finished the fitup and drilling of the rudder. there is lots o' trimming here. the parts all fitup nicely after drilling. the counterbalance was tough to align with the long through bolt holes and little in the way for alignment. My bolt holes were not perfectly straight and it took away from some of the edge distance on the rib. Didn't take any pics but I'm going to rivet a small reinforcing strip to the rib and pass the counterbalance attach bolts though that to help backup the rib. Should be plently of strength this way. Probably fine without it too.

(ref 9-18-06 for the lower portion of the rudder skeleton)

Had an issue with the rudder spar too when dimpling. Evidently I had the squeezer too tight when I dimpled the spar and it did the opposite of fluting and put a bow in the spar. I freaked out and thought I had just bought a new spar and all the repeat work that goes along with that, but after speaking with the guys at Van's, we agreed to try to flute the spar and straighten it. Worked perfectly. Some pics below.
