Brief Description:  Second and Third Paint Session

Yesterday, the second paint session was completed. The right flap and elevator were primed, and after the primer flashed, the gray top coat was applied. Everything was mixed according to the manufacturer’s prescription.

The resulting finished surface was slightly dry, and will be lightly sanded and a second topcoat applied after I figure out how to do it better.

Today the third paint session was completed. Both the upper and lower cowling were primed. Based on experience from the two previous sessions, I decided that the reducer in the primer needed to be increased from 20% to 25%, and the gun pressure reduced from 10 psi to 8 psi. I also concentrated more on keeping the gun at a constant 6 to 8 inches from the surface.

The results were far superior, leaving a much smoother, uniform surface. This setup will be used for all future parts. This primer will be allowed to cure, then lightly sanded or scuffed to eliminate any imbedded dust or other imperfections, before applying the color coat.
