Brief Description:  Flight Test #14 - Aft CG Testing

Flight test #14 was completed November 8th, in two separate flights. The purpose of these test flights was to determine the flight characteristics toward and at the aft CG limit for the LSA category.

The first flight was conducted with the CG at 73.33”, or 27.76% M.A.C. Twenty lbs, of softener salt was carefully packaged and strapped at the rear of the baggage compartment to achieve this CG position.

The second flight was conducted with the CG at 74.43”, or 30.05% M.A.C, requiring forty lbs, of softener salt to achieve this CG position.

In both flights a full stall series was conducted, followed by a full slow flight series, and finally a full stability series.

In both flights the stalls and slow flight were similar to those conducted with the CG at the center of its range, but requiring less stick force to achieve the stall.

Stability test results are as follows:
• Static longitudinal stability in pull is positive at 27.76% M.A.C, and neutral at 30.05% M.A.C.
• Static longitudinal stability in push is positive at both CG locations.
• Short-period dynamic longitudinal stability is positive at 27.76% M.A.C, and neutral at 30.05% M.A.C.
• Long-period dynamic longitudinal stability is positive at both CG locations.
• Lateral control stability is positive at both CG locations.
• Static directional stability is positive at both CG locations.
• Spiral stability is neutral at 27.76% M.A.C, and slightly divergent at 30.05% M.A.C.

In all cases, control forces are very light and easily controllable.

Fairings were added at the aileron push tubes under the wings, to reduce the amount of air entering the cockpit at the opening for the aileron joiners.
