Brief Description:  Seat Cushions

Yesterday the seat bottom cushion components were cut, and today the two seat back cushions were cut.

Yesterday evening, I glued scrap cushion pieces together with two different spray adhesives that I had on hand, to see if either was suitable for the job. The adhesives were 3M Supper 77 Multipurpose Adhesive, and 3M Hi-Strength 90 Contact Adhesive. In each case, adhesive was applied to both surfaces with two applications each, in different directions.

After allowing them to cure overnight, I attempted to pull both of them apart. In both cases, the adhesive joint was strong enough to tear the Confor foam. So, I deemed both to be suitable, and I chose to use the 3M Hi-Strength 90 for this job. Its spray pattern was not as uniform as the 3M Super 77, but very adequate for this job.

The uniform pattern of the Super 77 is far better for adhering CAD generated paper patterns to aluminum when fabricating aluminum components, so I saved it for future use.

The cushion seat and back used a full 17.6 OZ. can of the Hi-Strength 90.

I still need to add a lumbar support, which I will do when I get a chance for a sitting test, to locate it correctly. I will ask the upholsterer to add side wedges for lateral support when I get to that point.
