Brief Description: Cowling
|
|
When the access door is cut from the cowling then sanded to a good edge, there is more gap between the door and the cowling than desired, and the space between them is not completely uniform. To fix that, I wrapped the perimeter of the door with electrical tape. The tape is very stretchy, allowing it to cover the top, bottom, and edge of the door, and provide a uniform, close spacer.
The door was centered in the opening and clecoed in place, and the gap was filled with a thick mixture of epoxy and micro balloons. This will cure overnight, and I expect the epoxy to release from the tape with relative ease.
The same technique was used to fill some small gaps at the front of the cowling.
I also worked on the process I would use to mount the nutplates, and other work needed to finish and align the fasteners.
