Brief Description:  Canopy Seals and UAT Coax Route

Most of the foam seal around the perimeter of the canopy skirt was applied today. The hinge side was sealed with a ½” high, ¾” wide, closed-cell, PVC foam, with a self-adhesive. It is applied to the bottom side of the aluminum angle, and is thick and compliant enough to completely fill the opening and conform to the hinges. Since the aluminum angle does not extend all the way to the instrument panel, or all the way to the turtle deck, gap fillers will be fabricated as foam mounts.

The latch side of the canopy will be sealed with the same material under the aluminum angle.

The forward and aft ends are sealed with 3/16” tall, 3/8” wide, open cell foam, with a self-adhesive. This is a very soft, thin foam, positioned about ½” from the outboard edge, because there is virtually no space between the canopy skirt and the fuselage at these ends. If this foam was any wider, thicker, or denser, the canopy would not latch.

All of the foam is weather stripping from ACE Hardware, a good economical solution.
