Brief Description: Match Drilling the Bubble to the Skirt
Today, with the partially drilled canopy assembly setting in it most favorable position on the fuselage, the four clecos on both sides were removed to see if the canopy was pulling the skirt out of position relative to the fuselage. There was no obvious change in the way the skirt mated to the fuselage. So, the side clecos were reinstalled and duck tape was used to pull the front of the skirt into the most favorable position relative to the top of the boot cowl. The remaining holes around the skirt were drilled and #30 clecos installed.
There are still gaps of up to 1/8” at various points around the skirt perimeter, relative to the fuselage. I’m hoping some of this will be relieved when the excess bubble material is trimmed to about ½” outside of the fastener holes, and the excess lower portion of the skirt sides are cut away. Won’t know until we get there.
