Brief Description:  Mating Canopy Bubble to the Skirt

Today was a scary day… cutting the bubble. I was concerned about the cutting process since I have no experience with this type of canopy. However, it went well. I took it in small steps and never felt like I was close to damaging the bubble.

I started with a 4.5” angle grinder with a 0.045’ wide cutoff blade that worked well, but out of curiosity, decided to try my Dremel tool with a thin cutoff wheel. It worked equally well, but was easier to handle, and could follow the curves better. Unfortunately, the Dremel tool died after making several of the cuts, so I finished up with the angle grinder.

I took about five steps getting the bubble to the size that would fit inside the skirt, and three more cuts to get it to fit correctly.

All of the intermediate fitting was completed with the skirt screwed to parallel 1X3” boards fastened to one of my 24” wide tables. With the skirt overlapping both sides of the table, it was easy to work on the inside with bolster blocks, spreader sticks, and wedges to hold the canopy in position while working on the fit.
