The UAT antenna will be mounted behind the baggage compartment to keep it at least five feet away from the transponder antenna. Since it will be in a place difficult to access after the bottom aft skin is riveted in place, it is mounted on an access panel.
A rectangular opening was cut on the centerline, with the front edge about one-inch behind the bulkhead. The doubler plate, access panel, and a “C” shaped stiffener were fabricated from 0.025” thick aluminum. Eight, 8-32 nutplates were mounted on the doubler, and the doubler plate was riveted to the skin with solid 3/32” flush rivets. The antenna was mounted with star washers under the mounting nuts to insure a good ground connection.
Additional wire routing planning was completed, and a ¾” square wireway was mounted on top, right side of the spar structure.
