Brief Description: Corrective and Finishing Work on the Empanage
|
|
Today I returned to the empennage to take care of an up-elevator interference issue, and complete a few remaining items.
The interference issue was resolved by grinding a slightly larger radius on the two elevator horns, providing clearance with the rear vertical stabilizer spar.
The other work included the permanent mounting of the vertical stabilizer support angle above station #5 bulkhead, by updrilling the six vertical holes to 3/16”, priming, then bolting the angle in position.
The elevator trim cable outer casing was cut and attached above the horizontal stabilizer, at the rear spar with a loop clamp, and also at the elevator. The center solid cable was cut and attached to the trim tab with a bug-nut.
With the rudder removed to ease the above work, I took the opportunity to drill the 3/16” hole in the rudder horn for the tail wheel coupling.
I also started work on the aft fuselage access cover mounting, but need to order some 3/32” rivets to mount the nut-plates, and mounting screws, before they can be completed.
