I had previously attached one of the spar retainers to the fuselage side skin with fuel tank sealant. After thinking about it, I decided that they would be much more secure if they were attached with fasteners.
So, I tapped 8-32 holes in each corner of the phenolic mounting blocks, attaching them with 8-32 button head screws from the outside of the skin.
