Brief Description:  Forward Fuselage Prep

With the forward bottom skin clecoed in place, the forward fuselage was turned right side up on the saw horses. Four 3/16” holes were transfer drilled for the control stick bearings, two #18 holes for the lower center spar guide block were drilled, and two 3/16” holes for the left and right spar adjuster holes were drilled.

The bottom skin was marked for the mounting step hole, and a ¾” wood dowel was used as a drill bushing through the step mounting tube, then a ½” center hole was drilled through the lower skin. I’m not sure if this technique will work out, but nothing is lost by trying. The remainder of this trial process will be completed after the lower skin is removed for cleanup, deburring, and dimpling.

Six floor stiffeners were mounted with clecos, after drilling the stiffener and skin rivet holes to 3/32”, deburring the stiffener edges, and trimming some of the stiffeners to clear the steel frame.

The fuel line cover sides and top were trimmed slightly, the rivet holes drilled to 3/32” and deburred, then clecoed in position.

The right side skin was cleaned then clamped into position, ready for match drilling to the fuselage frame.
