For the last couple of days, I have been working on the baggage compartment flooring. It needs to be done now, because it will be much more difficult to complete after formers 1, left and right, are permanently installed. I need to install the formers soon so I can start fitting the canopy skirt.
To reduce aerodynamic noise and to stiffen the baggage floor, I decided to line the floor with ¾” thick rigid foam insulation with a foil face on both sides. The foil facing makes the foam panels self extinguishing, and provides a good surface for gluing the foam to the bottom skin and the thin carpeting on top.
Since the baggage floor is divided into three areas on each side by the stiffeners, six foam/carpet panels were cut to fit and everything is glued together with 3M Hi-Strength 90 spray adhesive. The panels are glued to the bottom skin only, so the skin can still be removed to complete the assembly of the trim push-pull cable, if Aircraft Spruce ever gets it off back-order.
The remainder of the baggage area has been painted with a grey hammered rattle can paint.
