The third item to be completed while the wings are installed is the wing walk.
The wing walk doubler was mounted one rivet hole outboard from its intended position, and a line was drawn on the doubler 1.062” from the skin, its full length. To eliminate the overlap of the doubler onto the tank skin, another line was drawn along the forward edge aligned with the trailing edge of the upper fuel tank skin.
The doubler was cut along both lines, and the edges filed smooth. A bevel was filed on the forward edge of the doubler, to help it blend in with the trailing edge of the fuel tank skin. The doubler was mounted in position and the 1/16” gap to the fuselage skin confirmed.
The bottom surface of the doubler and the upper surface of the wing under the doubler were sprayed with a self etching primer, then the doubler was riveted in place.
