Brief Description:  Hand Dimpling Tools

These dimpling tools are made from modified, geared, parallel jaw, pliers that my father used 50+ years ago. The pair on the left utilize the normal 1/8" X 120° dimpling dies with the mounting stems removed, then mounted to the plier jaws with J-B Weld.

The pair on the right is set up with the Cleaveland Aircraft Tool “DIENQ” die set that allows you to dimple directly into a #40 pilot hole, then ream the hole to final size with a #30 straight flute reamer. In this case I wanted to be able to use the dimpling dies in my lever operated dimpler also, so holes were drilled in the plier jaws to mount the dies. The jaws are hardened, so they must be heated to a cherry red, then allowed to cool slowly, so they can be drilled. Steel tubes were added to the handles for comfort. I use this pair most of the time because it produces the most accurate hole for the rivets.

Either of these tools can be used if the holes are within an inch of an edge.
