Brief Description:  Engine Case Painting

Painting day. The engine and it stand was moved into the paint booth, and the stand was masked off. The engine was given a final wipe-down with Wax and Grease Remover. I was surprised how much crud was still on the case after a previous alcohol wash.

Two thin coats of VHT Engine Primer were applied to the case and studs. After the primer dried for 30 minutes, the case was masked off with some thin packing foam sheet, leaving the studs exposed. The studs were then painted with VHT Black Pearl paint, the same paint used on the cylinders earlier.

After the stud paint had dried for about an hour, the foam engine masking was removed and the studs were masked off with 3/8” I.D. plastic tubing. The case was painted with two coats of VHT Ford Gray. After drying for about two hours, the engine and stand were removed from the paint booth and some of the masking was removed from the engine. The remainder will stay in place for now to keep the innards clean.

Now I need to figure out how to bake the engine assembly at 200-degrees for one hour to develop its full durability and chemical resistance.
