Brief Description:  Engine Component Preparation

I spent a couple of hours today figuring out what additional fasteners were required to assemble the engine.

After talking to William Wynne (W.W.) yesterday, I decided what main bearing to use for this engine. The previously preferred Clevite 77 bearings are no longer in production and the all of the shelves apparently emptied. W.W. feels the Clark’s Corvair # C6563 0.010 is appropriate for new aircraft conversions. Since this is one of the first items needed to begin assembly, I ordered them today.

The remainder of the day was spent washing the case halves to be sure no soda was hanging around in any of the oil galleries from the soda blasting operation, and washing the new cylinders to remove the protective oil so they can be painted. Both of the cleaning processes were followed with a compressed air blow-off to remove most of the water, then baked in the grill to be sure they were completely dry.
The grill was suggested by W.W. rather than the oven. He probably saved my marriage.
