Brief Description: Preparation for Mounting the Horizontal Stabilizer
After attaching the Horizontal Stabilizer Rear Mounts yesterday, I had a niggling thought in the back of my mind that one of the mounts may have moved slightly during the drilling process. I carefully checked the mount position by clamping a four-foot long straight square tube across the mounts, then measuring to both ends from the fuselage upper firewall mounts. Sure enough, there was a bout a ΒΌβ difference. So, the mounts were removed, rejigged, firmly clamped in the correct position, then redrilled with a 5/32β drill and clecoed in place with black, (5/32β) clecos. A repeat of the same measurement process yielded the same dimensions on both sides.
The modifications to the horizontal stabilizer defined in drawing # P-T-HT, VT, were made. This consists of increasing the center skin openings to provide mounting clearance, and drilling pilot holes in both spars. After a trial mount to the rear of the fuselage, I determined that the opening in the bottom skin will need to be increased a little.
