Brief Description: Hinged Components Paint Fixturing

To present both sides of the control surfaces in a horizontal orientation, a fixture with two hinge halves mounted vertically was fabricated. To ease installation and removal of the hinge pin, a 1/16” welding rod is used rather than a standard pin, to mount the various control surfaces to the fixture. After the first side is painted, the component is flipped over to the opposite side of the fixture, and supported by fixture extensions that support the part in an unpainted area.
The components to be painted on this fixture include: the vertical stabilizer, rudder, horizontal stabilizer, elevator, trim tab, ailerons, and flaps.
