Brief Description:  Flutter Testing & Completion of Phase 1

Flight test # 16 was completed November 14, 2017. The purpose of this flight test was to determine that all the control surfaces were free of flutter risk up to the Vne of 200 mph.

This test was conducted at three different speeds, 180, 190, and 200 mph. In each case, the test started a 5000 feet. The aircraft was put into a dive to achieve the target speed and trimmed to maintain the speed. Once stabilized, the control stick was smartly slapped from the front, back, and left and right sides. Then both rudder pedals were separately kicked hard and released. After each of these sharp inputs, careful observation for any vibration or noise that might indicate initiation of flutter was made before the next impulse was applied.

By the time this process was completed the altitude was down to about 3500 feet, so a climb back to 5000 feet preceded the next dive at the next higher speed.

No flutter was experienced.

The forty hour Phase 1 testing was completed November 27, 2017, and noted in the aircraft log.
