Brief Description:  Flight Test #8-B Airspeed Calibration

Flight test #8-B was completed on September 29.

The purpose of this flight was to measure the indicated airspeed vs. true airspeed from 120 to 170 mph, completing the test started yesterday.

The first triangular flight was run at 60 I.A.S. because this speed run completed yesterday had a defective leg. It was successful today.

The remaining flights ranging from 120 to 160 mph were completed successfully. The planned 170 mph flight was abandoned because 160 mph proved to be wide open throttle.

The results charted below, are far better than I expected based on experience with other airplanes. It is amazing to me how well placing the static port inside the left worked out. I not sure whether the recommendation by SPA to place the static port inside the wing was a serendipitous last resort attempt, or a flash of brilliance, but it works very well.

Fifteen hours of Phase-1 has been completed, twenty-five more to go.
