Brief Description:  Prep for Airworthiness Inspection +

Today the focus was on cleaning up the final details in preparation for the airworthiness inspection by the local FISDO inspector. One of the last remaining tests was proof of adequate fuel delivery to the carburetor at a climb angle of attack. The plane was moved to the edge of my ramp with the tail wheel off into the sloping yard, giving an angle of attack of 19.3 degrees.

The fuel line fitting was disconnected from the carburetor and connected to a hose that emptied into a fuel can sitting on an accurate scale. The hose was looped up and tied in position to be sure it was as high as the carburetor inlet.

With the scale zeroed, and no more than three gallons of fuel in the right tank, one of the fuel pumps was turned on and a stopwatch started. The stopwatch was stopped at 2 minutes and 20 seconds, when the scale showed 6 pounds of fuel in the can. This calculates to a flow rate of 25.75 gph, or 244% of the required full power fuel burn rate. Only 125% is required in this application, so it passed with flying colors.

During the past week, the weight and balance was also successfully completed.

The final propeller hardware also arrived this week, so the installation was completed.
