The propeller was temporarily mounted and the sparkplugs removed, so the engine could be turned over by hand during the priming process
Four quarts of Rotella T oil was loaded into the engine through the distributor hole, and the drill used to prime the system until oil was dripping from all of the rockers (less than ten minutes.) With the oil system now primed, the dipstick was marked at the 4-quart level. The ZDDP and another break in oil were mixed with additional Rotella T oil, making up an additional quart that was added to the crank case. After this additional quart had time to settle out in the crankcase, the dipstick was marked at the 5-quart level.
The priming continued for about thirty more minutes while the propeller was intermittently rotated in an attempt to push any crude and corruption from the engine assembly process into the filter. The EFIS was fired up, and displayed more than fifty pounds of oil pressure during the priming process.
