I decided to add a Curtis drain valve at the lowest point in the fuel system, for preflight sampling, and as a single point fuel system drain. The idea was to replace the standard bulkhead fitting with one that included a Tee for the drain. However, I could not find an AN fitting configured as I needed, so I purchased a steel AN804-6 Flared Tube Tee With Bulkhead On Run fitting.
Since they don’t make Curtis drain valves with 37-degree female fittings, I shortened the bulkhead Tee leg, and drilled and tapped it with a 1/8-27 NPT tap. The Curtis drain valve was tightened in place with a sealant and the fuel lines on both ends were restored. The valve hangs about 3/8” below the firewall, and is easily accessible through the opening in the lower cowl.
I received the remaining anchor nuts needed to complete the cowl mounting system, and they were riveted in place today.
