Brief Description:  Control Cable Containment

With the engine control cable firewall penetrations in place, it was time to work out the cable constraint system between the I.P. bulkhead and the firewall. To keep the cables from flopping around or interfering with other moving parts, provision was made to attach the throttle, mixture and carb heat cables to the side of the fuselage with loop clamps.

To make future maintenance easy, I decided to install 10-32 nutplates in the left fuselage skin, inside the cheeks. This keeps the fasteners out of sight from the outside, but readily reachable from inside. The installation went well until I realized I installed them on the wrong side of the skin. Fortunately I found the problem immediately, and was able to drill out the rivets and reinstall them correctly.

I also opened up the fuel line hole in the left skin so a 1.5” diameter plastic bushing would snap in place.

The rear edge of the left skin was bent a few degrees so it would lay tight against the aft fuselage skin.
