Brief Description:  Carburetor Heat Control Cable

As I mentioned yesterday, the Cable Safe Grips from ACS have become unobtainium. There are other similar fittings available, but I didn’t want to wait for them, so I fabricated my own.

The bulkhead fitting for the carb heat cable was fabricated from a 5/16” X ¾” long bolt. A #9 (0.196”) hole was drilled through the center, and a 1/16” hole drilled at an angle through the bolt head for safety wire. The #9 hole through the center is a close fit to the push/pull cable O.D., and the safety wire hole allows the safety wire to be wrapped around the cable 2 or 3 turns and tightly secured to the bolt head on the engine side of the firewall, preventing the cable from sliding through the fitting. With washers on both sides and a nut on the cabin side, it is a secure, fireproof, and inexpensive fitting.

The other end of the cable sheath was secured to the side of the carb heat box with two clamps and clamped to the carb heat actuator with a bug nut fabricated yesterday.
