Brief Description:  Adhearing the Bubble to the Skirt

The canopy bubble was glued to the canopy skirt today. The process was similar to the one spelled out in the BM, with two exceptions. First, all of the screw holes were predrilled, and clecoes were installed in all of the screw holes after the adhesive was applied and the two components were mated.

Secondly, after the inside glue bead was filled, shaped, and the masking tape adjacent to the glue line removed, the canopy was set back on the airframe. The skirt was clecoed to the canopy rails with the hinge pins and latch engaged to the airframe. This will hold the canopy in its final position against the fuselage skin while the adhesive cures, insuring a good fit after the adhesive cures.

After the canopy was locked in place, the outside adhesive joint was filled, shaped, and the adjacent masking tape was removed. At this point everything looks good. It will stay in this position for a week while the adhesive cures.
