Brief Description:  Canopy

Today, with the canopy assembly fully clecoed in place, the skirt-to-frame rivet holes were updrilled from #40 to #30. The skirt-to-bubble holes were updrilled from #40 to 1/8” with a Plexiglas drill bit.

The right side of the skirt needed further trimming. The new trim line was marked and the skirt and bubble were removed. The updrilled holes in the bubble were chamfered on both sides to minimize stress risers.

The skirt was trimmed to the new line and trial fitted again. Multiple mark – trim – trial fit repetitions were required to allow the canopy to be opened to ninety-degrees without the edge of the skirt hitting the fuselage when the canopy is fully opened. In the end, the right side of the canopy had to be trimmed to about 5/16” above the upper fuselage rectangular tube. Seems like a big gap, but I think it will be fine when the gap is filled with weather stripping and everything is painted.
