Brief Description:  Dimpling the Forward Steel Frame

This afternoon I dimpled the right side of the fuselage frame. The “Clamp/Dimpler” that is discussed in the June 13, 2015 log entry under in the Tooling category, was used in the open areas where there was no obstruction on the back side of the tube.

In the obstructed areas I used a standard male #30 X 120-degree dimpling die mounted in my rivet gun. This does not work well in open areas of tubing, because the tubes deflect, absorbing the energy. In obstructed areas the structure welded to the inside of the tube stiffens the area and the dimple die works effectively.
