Brief Description:  Baggage Tie-Down Points

Today I designed and fabricated eight baggage tie-down points that will be attached to the lower longerons at the forward end and aft end of the baggage compartment. Two tie-down points will also be mounted on the left and right sides of the elevator push rod tunnel, near the bottom. They have ½” diameter holes for attaching elastic straps to restrain baggage from movement.

The tie-down points were designed using 3D CAD in the sheet metal mode. This provides an unfolded full scale pattern that is printed out, then glued to 0.050” thick 6061-T6 aluminum. The pattern is then cut out with a band saw, sanded and polished, then bent at the centerlines marked on the paper pattern. They were then cleaned with alcohol, primed and painted.

½” wide x 1/8” thick aluminum spacers will be used between the Lower longerons and the tie-down points.
