Brief Description:  Left Wheel Mods & Mounting

To allow the axel adapter to be positioned as close to the axel flange as possible, the four flange fasteners were reversed so the smaller Allen head was against the adapter; the position of the four bolts was marked on the axel adapter, then four small clearance grooves were cut into the adapter with a small stone in a Dremel tool. The grooves were then painted with the powder coat touch up paint available from SPA, to prevent rust.

The modified axel adapter was mounted on the axel, pushed up against the flange, and aligned to position the brake on the bottom of the assembly. The axel and adapter were clamped in position on the drill press, then drilled and reamed for the cross bolt. The inboard end of the axel adapter was marked on the axel, and the two parts were disassembled and deburred. The axel was then cut to the mark on a band saw, then ground smooth. The cut end of the axel was painted with the powder coat touch up paint, and after curing, the entire unit was reassembled and mounted to the left main gear strut.
