Brief Description:  Cylinder Painting Prep

Today I worked on the process I will use to paint the engine cylinders. They will need to be washed in a soap solution, thoroughly rinsed with clear water, blow off as much water as possible with compressed air, then baked in an oven at ~220-degrees until thoroughly dry, to prevent rust.

After cooling down to about 120-degrees, they will be sealed in one-gallon zip lock bags until they can be painted with VHT primer then VHT SP137 Ford Gray engine enamel. After the paint dries the cylinders will be returned to the oven to fully cure the enamel so it develops its full durability and chemical resistance. I talked to my wife about using her oven for this processing. The discussion was not completely positive, so we will see what happens,

For the actual painting, I generated a couple of reusable paint masks from plastic sour cream containers for the ends of the cylinders, and set up a small turntable in the paint booth so the cylinders could easily be rotated while painting.
