Brief Description:  Forward Bottom Skin Final Installation

The landing gear opening stiffeners and bottom skin stiffeners were riveted to the bottom skin. A bead of Poly-ProTech Fuel tank sealant was applied to the areas called out in the Builder’s Manual, but instead of applying it to the skin, I applied it to the inverted forward fuselage structure. Then with the help of my wife, we set the skin onto the cage very carefully to insure the sealant did not get smeared.

The skin was then clecoed in place, and CCC-42 rivets were loaded and pulled pneumatically. The squeeze out around the perimeter was scraped off with a putty knife, then the perimeter and rivets were cleaned up with acetone soaked paper towels. The cleanup was relatively easy, effective, and quick. There was only a minor amount of squeeze out on the cabin side of the skin, so I left it as it was.

The Poly-ProTech applied very easily from a normal caulking gun, sticks to anything it touches and transfers to anything you touch, just like ProSeal. Fortunately, it cleans up a little easier.
