Brief Description:  Outer Wing Guides +

Since I have the early Nylon wing guide blocks, they needed to be thinned down to 3/16”. After trying to sand them down, I decided that I would get better and faster results by face milling them on my milling machine. The parts were supported on parallel bars while clamped in the vice on the mill. Once the cutter height was set to 3/16” above the parallel bars, it was a simple matter to mill the surface by moving the mill table under the cutter with the X and Y axis, remove the part from the vice, clamp the next part in the vice, and repeat the process for all six parts. The holes were countersunk and the guide blocks mounted to the airframe.

Holes to mount the upper wing adjusters were drilled on both side of the airframe with a step drill, to 5/16”.

The holes at the ends of the elevator reverser were updrilled to 5/16” and ¼” I.D. bushings were pressed into position with the drill press. A ¼” diameter pin was chucked in the drill chuck, extending into the bushing, to ensure that the bushing started perpendicular to the reverser. The flange bearing was then riveted to the center of the reverser.

The control stick stop was bolted to the control stick box.

The line of rivet holes at the intersection of the forward and aft fuselage sections, at the bottom, were updrilled to #30.

Preparations began to separate the two fuselage sections for the final cleanup and dimpling for the permanent marriage of the two sections.
