Brief Description:  Forward Fuselage Prep

To eliminate the slight pucker of the firewall caused by the engine mount pads being slightly forward of the fuselage frame, I purchased six feet of 1/16” thick by ½” wide hardware store aluminum strips ($3.00) to fill the resulting gap. Image #1 shows the three pieces of aluminum taped in place before the firewall is positioned and the upper horizontal and “V” tubes are drilled.

Image #2 shows the spacer in position between the firewall and upper cross tube.

The shims used at the intersection of the aft fuselage and forward fuselage at the lower longerons were fabricated from the P6511, aluminum strips provided in the kit.

The forward fuselage was roughly leveled, then my good friend and neighbor Randy (also an award winning frequent homebuilder) came over and helped me position the aft fuselage behind the forward fuselage.
