The first attempt at aligning the upper wing skins for the right wing left me frustrated. The alignment just did not work on the trailing edge, so I wanted to add a reference line to the rear spar and start again. Before restarting, I decided to review the Builders Manual and drawings again. Bingo! While the BM did not discuss the reference line on the rear spar, it was clearly spelled out on the right wing drawing, and I had missed it.
After adding the reference line 7/16” behind the front face of the rear spar, everything aligned properly and I was able to match drill about 50% the holes in the skin to the ribs; enough to see that the skin was well aligned, and laid down nice and flat.
The same process was used on the lower skins with equally pleasing results.
In the next work session, the remainder of the rib holes will be drilled for both surfaces, then the leading edge skin will be applied.
