Brief Description:  Tom Clark fastback - top skin

... as I mentioned yesterday, after fitting the top skin more or less as advised by the provided instructions we had some bowing on the right side. Looking at it again today, the bowing was more than first thought, with gaps slightly over 1/8" on the right-side bulkhead. Cleco-ing the skin down looks awful and I'm not sure that shims of that thickness are the right solution either. Not only that, but having now been able to get inside the fuselage I've noted that the bulkheads are not positioned straight up vertically, and kind of lean forwards. This obviously occurred when the tiedowns were tightened and it went un-noticed at the time. The odd thing is, the skin lies correctly flat against the two rear bulkheads; its only the right-side of the forward two bulkheads that have a problem. I'm also going to measure the bulkheads and double-check that they are indeed symmetrical, because the skin sure *looks* symmetrical and even looking from the outside at the general 'lines' of the aft fuselage.

In any case, I've more or less decided to scrap this approach, get a new sheet, and try again using a different method. Its a paint in the butt, from both a time *and* money perspective, but I think it is the 'right' thing to do. I'm still not convinced that the instructions provided are the most suitable approach to fitting this skin though...
