Brief Description:  Grove landing gear

First job tonight was to re-check the measurements from the other night, just in case there had been any movement. There hadn't. Then I un-clamped and removed the angles from the gear legs.

I wanted to make a further check to ensure that the gear legs themselves were properly aligned, and that the previous measurements from the ends of the angles were accurate. It would be possible to have the angles were positioned equally out of alignment on the legs which would give accurate measurements even though the legs themselves might not be correct. A further check on the legs themselves would eliminate this possibility.

To do this I ran a string through the aft mounting holes at the top (bottom?!) of *both* gear legs, with a plumb bob on each end. I then measured from the plumb to the center line on both sides, and similarly from the plumb to the center plumbs at the firewall and the tailwheel. All good, so I'm reasonably happy; of course, I won't be *totally* happy until it tracks straight down the runway that first time!!

Finally, accepting the measurements that I had taken, I drilled the 3/8" outboard holes through the U-803 mounting plates, U-805 wear plates, bottom skin, fwd lower longeron and landing box weldment on both sides, inserting 3/8" bolts as I went. Unfortunately I found I didn't have a 5/16" drill bit (I thought I had?), so that is as far as I got. Rightly or wrongly, the gear position is now finalised...
