Brief Description:  Grove landing gear

Despite injury I managed to make some good progress. In summary, the two Grove airfoil gear legs are mounted and ready to be aligned with the fuselage. I went out and bought various size drills this morning, the main one being a new 7/16" of course. First off I had to see to that first wear plate that I was worried about yesterday. Well, read the text in the pictures, because the short story is that it was my drill press at fault, not the wear plate. After I fixed that we were off and running. Having got both the inboard U-806 wear plates drilled, I then mounted the gear legs to the fuselage. I found that the Grove U-803 outboard bracket interferes by quite some margin onto the F-802L aft crossmember. A quick check on the Internet (thanks to Mickey Coggins here!) and I removed a part of the F-802L to make space. Next I clamped aluminium angles to the gear legs, got everything levelled up and dropped plumb bobs from each end of the angles and the front/rear of the fuselage. Six drops in all. Next job, which I'll tackle when I can get Jackie's assistance, is to get everything levelled and aligned, checked, checked again, and then tightened down and drilled. That'll have to be another day, probably one evening during the week as I'm skydiving tomorrow. More importantly than that though, I'm hoping to collect my Todd canopy! Pictures of course once I have it. Photos for today's work will take up the next three log entries. Enjoy...

Once fixed, the drill press made for an easy job.
