These pictures show the difference between the -4 rivet called for in the plans, and the cut down -5 that I chose to use, which I guess was a -4.5 (-ish). The -4 was just too short and rattled around inside the Avery rivet guage. The cut-down rivet set to head much closer to the recommended spec's.
The first photo shows the difference in length between a -5, the cut-down rivet, and a -4. Athough the cut-down rivet doesn't look much longer than the -4, the picture is deceptive and it definately sets better. Of course, having to cut down all those rivets and then file the burrs of the end took a bit of extra time that just using the called out -4's, but I'm happier with the results.
The second photo shows the -4 (left) and the cut-down rivet (right) after being set. Again, hard to see, but the head on the cut down rivet is much closer to specs.
