Brief Description: Fitting main wing skins (left wing)
|
|
Phew! What a night! Still, look at the results; cooool :-) Spent some time trying to work out how to make the wing walk doubler. Everntually checked Dan C's website for the answer; the instructions are incorrect, and this was also confirmed by a thread in the VansAirforce forums. Where would we be without the Internet? The doubler gets made from the AS3-025x10x48 supplied in the kit, which at first glance looks waaay to long. The instructions specify AS3-025x9 3/8x26, which doesn't actually exist. Even so, I managed to make an error which was fortunately easy to fix. I don't know how I did it but I managed to fit the doubler from the bottom of the skin, not the top!! Lucky for me the holes in the wing walk ribs, top & bottom spars are all symmetrical, so with a bit of trimming I was able to recover the piece. Phew! Lucky. Then came the tedious wrist-killing task of actually fitting the main skins to the skeleton. I found that I had to remove a lower bracket at the outboard end which wasn't allowing the skin to follow the rib, but other than that, she's all good. Having got the main skins on, I simply *had* to fit the cleco'd loutboard eading edge and the pre-built fuel tank for a photo; well, be rude not too, wouldn't it?!! :-) Skydiving tomorrow, and I have to go over to Raglan to see my Nan on Sunday, but maybe Sunday evening we'll start drilling this thing; ohmegod!!
