Brief Description:  Canopy fitting - THE BIG CUT!

Well today was the day. No jumping today, so I threw three heaters into the workshop, swallowed hard at the thought of my next electricity bill and then went and watched a movie (Back to the Future II; I know, know...). Anyway, with the workshop a toasty 28 deg C it was time to get stuck in. This log entry, and then next one show the photos from today's work. Not a lot to actually show, but a big day nonetheless. Why; because today was the day of THE BIG CUT™.

First, careful positioning and clamping (God, I hope we got that right!). Taped down the front screen. Made the cut (I had a cardboard template taped in place inside to give me my line). Lifted the whole thing (canopy and frame) off the fuselage (quick-release pins came in handy now!). Then on the saw-horses clamped the front hoop, and finally six cleco's were drilled in place to provide correct alignment for when we disassemble everything.

The last job, which I have yet to go out and do (heaters are still running!) is to trim around all the edges so that the canopy just overlaps the canopy frame tubes and there isn't too much excess around. I'll go out and do that after I've had a little break for a cup of tea (yes, I know, very English of me!). Tomorrow; will we, or won't we, SIKA this sucka? Watch this space!
