Brief Description:  Right flap brace countersinking

Jackie gave me a hand today to attempt the countersink job on the already installed flap brace on the right wing. I'm pleased to report that it went very well. First we removed the flap and re-cleco'd the hinge back to the brace, but *not* to the skin. The cleco's were pushed tight up against the edge of the skin, but that was ok. Then moving from inboard to outboard we removed the cleco and countersunk one hole at a time. Jackie was holding a piece of wood between the skin and flap brace about three holes further along and levering just enough for me to get clearance for the mini microstop countersink. Slowly we made our way along one hole at a time, and it all went very well indeed. Jackie then deburred all the holes in the hinge and the flap brace while I re-clamped the aileron in preparation for working on the wing tip. We won't be getting any further with the flap brace for now, since I have no easy way of deburring the underside of the skin. I could use emery but then I'd rub the primer off. So I've bit the bullet and ordered a burraway from Wicks Aircraft that will do the job nicely. Until that arrives, the flap brace & hinge fitting is on hold. Oh, and we drilled a hole in the aileron hinge bracket to allow the pin through, as per the manual. I did too good a job, though, and the hole is exactly in line with the hinge pin, so there's nothing to stop it vibrating out. I guess I'll stick a couple of small #53 holes in there too, bend the pin ninety degrees and safety wire it to the hinge bracket. Won't go anywhere then...
