Brief Description: Left flap, dimpling skins
|
|
Went over to see Phil as planned. Got the holes on the flap skins deburred and then dimpled any hole on the flap or aileron skins that I wouldn't be able to reach later with a squeezer. It was while doing this that I noticed that I hadn't fabricated the little spacers that sit between the top skin and the bottom of the end ribs. Actually, unlike the RV-7 flap plans (I checked), there is no mention of these spacers at all, which is obviously why I forget when match drilling. And while I'm on the subject of RV-7 vs RV-8; man what a difference! The flap drawing for the -7 is *sooo* much better than the one for the -8. Not only that, but all the ribs are pre-punched as well as the skin, and the brackets are pre-fabricated too! No having to cut them from flat stock. Damn!! Phil's got it easy and I made sure he knew it!! While I was there I gave Phil a small hand putting the vent line and capacitive senders into his tanks, but on the whole we spent most of the time gabbing about stuff, comparing different aspects of -7 vs -8 and complaining about some of the things that really *should* be part of the instructions, especially where unknowledgable first-time builders are concerned, like us. Anyway, after four hours (including a break for lunch) I had my bits done and scooted off home. I need to finish deburring, dimpling, countersinking, edge-finishing, etc, etc all the flap parts and I'll try to do most of these over the coming week. With two exams looming though, I may not be able to devote quite as much time as I'd like. No matter, I'm in no rush...
