Brief Description:  Inspection cover nutplates

Numbered and match drilled #27 the inspection covers to the spar. Dimpled the covers #6. Made up a little #6 dimple guage and a nutplate drill jig with a #40 centre hole. Drilled all the #40 nutplate rivet holes on the spar. Used the same method as the tank attach nutplates to countersink all the screw holes to accept a #6 dimple using the jig and a #40 countersink cutter. Then went back and countersuck the rivet holes; I found it works better this way round as the jig locates better before the rivet holes have been countersunk. Then came the mistak; we ran out of masking tape so Jackie bought some brown parcel tape. We masked the spar and sprayed rattle can etch primer. Even though the tape was only on the spar for around 15 minutes it was enough to leave all the adhesive behind. We then had to clean it up using meths. Of course, the meths also affects the etch primer so we can to be careful not to clean that off. Went better than I expected, so perhaps my earlier expletives were unnecessary! Let the primer dry properly while I cooked dinner (steak; yummee!) and the riveted the nutplates on. Quit there to go and walk Chester.
