Brief Description:  casting lead ballance weights

1, 2, 3) I am not intending to do any discussion on casting lead as one has to be very careful with doing this part. Read up on it from several sites, and be very carefull. Hot lead isnt something to mess with, breath in fumes, or spill. I took several days preparing for the pours shown here, and still didnt get a good one on the first try, as can be seen.

My mold was made from the plans and sized to the plans. .025 scrap aluminum was used and the triangular sedction was an-revited together. a bottom plate with foanges was attrached. the problem was that I had not sealed the bottom enough. molten lead at 800-900 degrees is pretty slipery, and indeed ran out everywhere. The puddle on the left side was the mess it made I did cut it all back up and remelted it for the second try.

Again...please...read how to do this!. it isnt hard, but one has to do so safely. like landing a tail dragger for the first time, maybe??
