Brief Description: LE skin

1) I have a small shop with other non aviation items taking up space. Here is my temporary solution to storage space. I placed 2x3 blocks in three places inside the rear spar channel ant taped to the wing with...you guessed it...go fast tape. Then I with the assist from the CFO?CO-pilot/cook/and etc lifted the wing off and on to the floor. I tied it to the unused side of the bench so as to be able to get to the other side and perform skin folding.
2) LE skin all bundled up and ready for a vac connection for forming the LE. I used a 10 ft length of electrical condut as the form, placed two 3/32 clecoes just inside the ends and into the surplus 025 skin areas at each end to hold it in place. I bagged it up, sealed it up and was ready to go.
3) Here I have put the vac at the end and near the 1.5 in conduit former, and used aforementioned go fast tape to seal it up. sor of..When I turned the vac on, it did indeed suck the air out, the 025 did bend and was formed arount the form, as advertised. But, what I didn not realize at that time was that I had left a large ammount of trumable aluminum on the aft edge. When I folded the aluminum up and secured it prior to bagging it, I didnt allow for this as I alligned the front edge and the extra edge. this caused the actual bend line center to be displaced about 1/2 inch off where I wanted it.Nuts. I thought another 150+ dollars shot in the butt. So I figured that if it was ruined I might as well try to save it. I cut off the offending extra ammount..sans 1/4 inch...realligned the edges, re bagged and re vaced it. again it squashed fine, and the off bend line error appeared much better..not perfect..but in my opinion, usable. the RH wing will have the benifit of my,shall I say, stupidity? Naw! Just oversight! Thats it...oversight. I like that!! HA!
